Assignment: Understanding Fashion Production

Fashion Production is a field in fashion that I am very interested in. I worked in the Fashion Merchandising field for a year and I fell in love with the business side of fashion. I even took an online class in Operations Management by Wharton so I can better understand the production side of it all.

When I tried using the computation that was taught in the lecture to have a better understanding of how much my accessory would cost and how much i should sell it for, it was not new to me anymore. In fact, one of my major roles as a Junior Buyer before was to decide on the retail prices of the products that the company I was working for would be selling. Therefore, I am very experienced on the whole process.

Discovering and exploring the materials and equipment involved in making a certain type of clothing or accessory, including the labor of the people involved, are fantastic ways to understand the world of fashion. It is a good learning experience for any person interested in fashion as it helps one realize the whats and whys of a clothing or an accessory. It makes you comprehend as to why a certain brand of clothing has a different price range than another brand, or the differences between luxury fashion and fast fashion.

I believe that production is the back bone of retail so without it, there is nothing to sell, nothing to deliver to customers and no art to appreciate.

Assignment: Working in Fashion Media

I was a fashion blogger for about 5 years. I owned and operated www.desireslair.com by myself and it was an amazing journey. I was invited to many events and even able to try products that some people would send me. During those days, I joined fashion-centric social media like Lookbook and Chictopia. I also joined local ones like Preview and an Indian-based one, Fashionlivre, where I was featured countless of times. Because I was gaining followers from India, USA and Philippines, I made a Facebook page and gained over 1500 likes there. Now, I have retired www.desireslair.com and decided to do more lifestyle blogs as I have been travelling a lot during the time. Now I still do blog from time to time under www.projectmylz.com but being a stay-at-home mom, it is quite a challenge. Hopefully, when my baby is bigger, I can go back to blogging and share more fashion-related topics.
